Do we need root access to install Tigase on linux systems for production?
I hope we can simply unzip the Tigase dump file and start the server under any normal user.
Do we really need root access to setup any special features inside the Tigase any time? Or can we manage everything from a normal user itself?

We, actually, suggest to never run Tigase form a root account. On some Linux systems you cannot even get more than 1000 user connections under root account. The only thing that is impossible under normal user is binding to ports with numbers below 1024. Usually it is not an issue unless you want to server Bosh on port 80.
Also, root access is sometimes necessary to tweak OS parameters to improve performance for a large installations. Please refer to our online documentation for more details: http://www.tigase.org/content/linux-settings-high-load-systems
