From within a git repo, after compiling:

$ scripts/ start etc/tigase.conf

TIGASE_HOME is not set.

Please set it to correct value before starting the sever.

Which version of jave are you using? Have you configured path to JDK in etc/tigase.conf file?

Yes, I set JAVA_HOME in tigase.conf. Seems I had to copy target/tigase-server.jar into the jars directory and now it works. It appears does some autodetection of the location of this jar, and if not found then it confusingly reports missing TIGASE_HOME.

The script was intended to be used with distribution package thus it looks for the binaries in paths that should contains tigase binary in tarbal hence the problem with binaries build straight from repository.
