Hello,

Can I use Tigase Server Parents + Components (Muc, Archiving, maybe more) for a commercial use?

I want to install Tigase Servers on my hardware, and sell some services as chatrooms, binary transferts, etc.

The final customer won't see anything about "tigase", these servers will just be used in my office.

Regards,

#JeSuisTigase

Most of our software is available for free under the AGPLv3 license. It does not matter whether it is commercial or non-profit use. You just have to obey AGPLv3 terms and conditions.

In case AGPLv3 license is not suitable for your business model we also offer a commercial license with different terms and conditions. If you are interested in pricing, please send us a message using a contact form on our main website

Thank you for your answer Artur Hefczyc !

I have the server tigase-server-5.1.0-beta8-b2937, which is under GNU.

Is it still legal to use this old version? (in order to keep my code not open-source)

Are the components MUC and Archiving supported?

Are the "completed versions" of this page (https://projects.tigase.org/projects/tigase-muc/roadmap), the Tigase ones where the component is supported ?

Yes, it is legal to use either the old or new version as long as you obey the license terms and conditions. For the old version this is GPLv3 and the new version is AGPLv3. Both licenses allow you to keep your custom code closed-source in certain situations and require you to release your code in some use-cases. I suggest you to read the license and consult legal advisor to ensure your are OK with the license.

I am not sure about Message Archiving but MUC was supported in the old version for sure.

Are the "completed versions" of this page (https://projects.tigase.org/projects/tigase-muc/roadmap), the Tigase ones where the component is supported ?

Please note, the old version is no longer under the development, so what is supported, is supported but no new functions will be added.

Hello and thank you for this explanation.

Can you please tell me what's your AGPL point of view in this use case :

I do not modify the code of the server, but I add plugins (yours or mines) and webservices.

Do I have to open-source my code (or buy a commercial license) ?

If the answer is yes, what about a different use case where I only add a web service (no plugin) ?
